I know this may have been addressed in the past, but is worth repeating. Since were in the start of the Dog Day's of Summer, the AC in our Cali's is getting used quite often. I've heard many complaints that the Caliber's AC...."isn't Cold" or " doesn't get the Car cool".

Remember.........Everytime you shut off the engine, while running the AC, the recycle function has to be reset (At least in my Cali). It makes a huge difference in Temp, not engaging the recycle button.

My Caliber's AC is Ice Cold, I'm sure the aftermarket tinted windows help.

Stay Cool my Friends!!!! :cool::cool::cool:

WW85,
Please explain what it is you do exactly.............Thanks

When you depress the AC button, make sure the recycle button, just below the AC button is also depresseed. The Cali 's AC will function without the recycle being depressed. You don't want to bring in air from the outside.

Most other cars I've owned the recycle button was in the default mode when the AC is running, not so with the Caliber.

Just a point about the Recycle-don't use it when it gets cold
out in Defrost mode, your windows will fog extremely fast even tho
you are in defrost mode.

im pretty sure when you press the button and the light is on .. that means recirculating air is OFF. leaving it off and lights out means it is ON.
Sorry JoJo but that's incorrect when recirc lite is on recirc is active.

Yep, gotta agree with WW85 there. When we came out from the wife's second drs appointment yesterday, the temp indicator said 99 degrees Fahrenheit. Opened the doors for a couple of minutes then cranked it up turned on the a/c, pressed the recirculate button and within just a few minutes, it was quite comfortable in the car. Sometimes, I have to turn the air up a little warmer because the wife gets cold. I think the a/c on the Calbiers works great!!!

Also when a defrost mode is selected it will not allow you to have the recirculate button on. Turn you AC on with the front passenger vents and recirculate ON. While it is on switch to a defrost position and the light will go out automatically. It has a default built that will not let you have on recirculate with any defrost position selected. Also I have noticed it will reset to off automatically when the AC is switched to the Off position or the key is turned Off.

Great advice there WW :worshippy:, i will give this a go today, also i might add that you check your A/C filter now and again, they get pretty dirty..
i will rep you as soon as i can.

Thx Brendy!! It's something so simple, but if you fail to pay attention that the Recirc/Recycle is on during the AC's operation, your AC isn't working up to it's full capacity. Especially since most of us are somewhat new owners of the Caliber and our prior car might have had a default mode for this function. Someone asked ..."where's the recirc button".....it's at the six o'clock postion on your Fan adjustment, the AC is at approx 8 o'clock.

Good point about the AC filter. The Cabin filter in my Wife's MPV get's very dirty, seems Van's/Suv's filters do get quite nasty over a short period of time.

Hey Brendy, where's that filter located and how do you access it?? Mines only three months old and works great, but I'd like to know ahead of time. Just in case. Thanks

I rarely use the recirculation option when running my AC. There is the odd day when it is handy to use to quickly get the car cool, but other than that I prefer it bringing in "fresh" air and it cools pretty well.

But preferably I drive with the sunroof open, the windows down, and the music loud.

I use a thermometer with a probe, like a meat thermo, to check the temp of the air. I shove it in the center vent and I get about 40Âş once I get rolling. I agree that using recirculate gets the car cooler faster, but when I get running on the road, I turn recirculate off. I also have shut the vent to the stinking "chill zone." I'd rather have all the cold air in the cabin.

JoJo, open your glove box and its behind there, what you have to do is remove the glove box completely, i have pics in the gallery, here they are..

here i have marked it in red, you have to press the clips of filter cover to remove.

You have to be quite forceful but careful with the glove box door, what you do is pull the stoppers inward both sides, watch tho as when you release it falls, so it would be a good idea to empty the glove box door, then you can access the filter easy enough, do reverse to put the door back again when you change the filter, many of you will find you don't have a filter there, its a standard feature here.

Not to be an upstart, but if you read the manual, it says that by activating both the AC and the recirc, that puts it into "Max AC" mode. They actually have some good tips in there about using your AC properly:D
That's because they define "Max AC" as using the recirc function. So in a sense it's circular reasoning, no pun intended.

I posit they define "Max AC" as such because you are cooling air that is getting increasingly colder, not bringing in hot air from outside. I may run the "Max" mode briefly, but I find the AC quite adequate w/o recirc once I get rolling.

Also, I don't bother with the AC at all on a short jog just 6 miles from work to home.

IMO, it just doesn't make sense to run the AC without the recirc in use. Why waste fuel running the AC unless you can get the most benefit from the AC....which is the use of the recirc. If it's cool enough outside, just run the vent without the AC and the recirc not engaged.

Why bring in warm air from the outside??? Just isn't the way to go!!

JoJo it's easier to cool down 25 cubic ft of air than all of the outside
air, reciric does just that keeps reducing temp of cabin space.
Remember when your dad would shout at you"Close the door what
do you think your doing cooling/heating the world".

im pretty sure its in the manual.... but youre supposed to open windows.turn on AC to let hot(ter) air escape...turn off recirculate for a few... roll up windows then turn on the recirculate after a little longer so as to not recycle warm air.

most of this stuff is in my dad's charger owner's manual... like i said.. i dont have one for the caliber or i'd give you the page #

I really dont want to keep breathing mine , & my passengers, Farts, Belches, Burps, Smelly feet & general unpleasant ourdours for too long. Not to mention their Bacteria & Viruses. Re Circulate is OK for the fist 5 mins in any weather, just to get things started. Or if you are sucking in from the smokey , smelly diesel infront of you....But other than that It stays OFF!!

What a group that rides in you're Cali...........their eating habits and hyigene are very questionable, to say the least. :)

Thankfully, 95% of the time, I'm the only occupant in my Caliber. One reason I hate to keep the recirc off, it brings in all the Car fumes and Cigarette smoke when I'm at a stop light. I HATE having someone's cigarette smoke entering my cabin......non-smokers know what I mean.

Running the AC compressor in either mode of Recirc, uses the same amount of fuel. IMO, it makes no sense at all not running the recirc with the AC on. If it isn't hot enough to run the AC.................keep it off entirely to save fuel.

Even on your own you are recircuating the same stale, Allready breathed air Over & over again. Its gonna end up really stinking & stale.......Its like driving a sealed up Cookie Jar!!!!

Pete you either have to change friends or have them
change their personal hygiene practices.
