I use a product that my dad ordered for me through the auto body shop he works at... I forget what it's called but it's used by all professional auto body techs for all types of moldings... I used it on the plastic on my '03 Avalanche and it brought it back to beautiful... I also used it on my g/f's Caliber and shined it right up... Not like her's was faded or anything, but it brought a nice shine to it... When I get home I'll see what it's called...

WE get so little sun in England, Sometimes I wish my trim would Fade!!!
Has this fading affected only certain cars/parts?

My SXT trim was built May 06 and have not noticed a problem. It may be as Pete says because it's been in England where there is little sun and the atmosphere is moist a lot which makes the plastic look new.

Did Belvidere though not have a problem with the plastics supplier in 2007 when production was halted, maybe they sourced some parts from elsewhere ?

I can be fussy so would have noticed. My Ford had metallic black trim which stained horribly.

Well if they make a car every 2 minutes then yours would be about the 11th?

Sounds like the Caliber build sequence started at 500000 - the fifth series of vehicles built there maybe? Someone must know a story here.

how about trim peeling... mine is startin to curl at the seams. built jan 06
built jan 06 That's almost pre-production! Full volume started Feb, do tell did the build sequence start at 500001? What's your last 6.

trim peeling - Did you mean the corner lifting at the joins? Mine were put back too tight after a windshield replace and that exagerated the problem.

On a rare hot day I lifted the trim and curled it around the other way to overcome the memory effect. It's still laying fairly flat ....

Hi.....is Anyone Else Having Promblems With There Black Trim Around The Roof, fading , Peeling Or Chipping....i Just Noticed It Today...the Trim On The Back (rear Spoiler ) Is Fading In One Area...its Turning White...i Never Used Wax So It Ain't That & I Used Some Armor All , But That Did'nt Help Either
Thanx....danny
My roof trim was graying a little but the trim below the front skirt was nearly white. (2007 SXT Sport Diesel in met' silver with 38k on the clock). I've just tried 'SIMONEZ, Jet black bumper restorer' and it has come up a treat. So good I've done all the black trim and to be honest it has come up like new. Will have to wait and see how long it lasts but I'm well chuffed. :smiley_thumbs_up: :smiley_thumbs_up: :smiley_thumbs_up:

black trim chipped

I have the flat black applied material (it acts like an adhesive backed tape) on silver paint on the door frames, (vertical between the windows). It is in dire need of one the previously mentioned black restore products, but some of mine is chipped and peeling off. Has anybody masterd a mask off and touch up product that would simulate the textured finish, or will this condition only be remedied by purchasing a new new trim kit from dealer (ouch) and having a body shop reinstall them. The tape is slid under a trim piece on the window, so I'm thinking a pro will be needed?? Has anyone overcome this issue, and were there lessons learned?

Don't know what Caliber or year you have (as you haven't given that in your profile), but if it's still under warranty, it should be covered.

2007 Caliber R/T AWD. Good angle on the warranty. It is still within the mileage boundaries of factory warranty, so I'll swing by and talk to the dealer about it.
That's your best bet. When you get the time, go to UserCP and update your profile with your car info so you don't have to repeat yourself.;)

WD-40 is a petrolium based product, might melt the plastic. Try an inconspicuous area first to see if it is ok. I've used WD-40 on a lot of things, never had a problem. But a quick check to see if it doesn't do any damage is best, before going "whole hog"
