yea..but the car is only 5 months old & 3000 miles...when i'm not driving ,i leave it in the garage out of the sun...its hard to believe the little bit of sun it did see did this already...what kind of cheap plastic 's are dodge using...do they think cars only drive in the shade ???????...anyway has anyone dealt with there dealer about this promblem....thanx..danny
I'm not having any problems with that so far, almost a year now. It is hard to leave plastics out in the sun without them fading, and it's just something that is almost impossible to reverse. :(
Its sad but its true, especialy black plastic:shakehead:

Enjoy:D
I've discussed this else where. I have this problem, and even toured my dealer's lot and showed the body shop manager that there was two types of plastic on the cars in his lot. He agreed they were different, but only offered it was probably due to different vendors supplying the factory. The one I have has an open pore surface that allows water minerals and dust to collect in them. It requires me to use Mother's Back To Black after each washing to keep it looking good.

I have tried a test painting on it with Krylon Fusion paint, but yesterday I tested it and it scratched off. I've used this paint on other plastic and never had it scratch off so easy.

If someone ever comes up with a product that fills these pores, do post what it is.

UPDATE: The product to use is Forever Black.

Was unhappy when I bot Caliber in latter autumn because I knew the coming winter would lower my MPG. But from this thread alone, I now am glad I bot when I did. Here in Washington State at the 48th parallel with the winter sun:4-sunshine: only 19 degrees off the horizon, the sun hasn't faded my black plastics yet. I second Prop1's suggestion: anyone finding a plastic fading solution HAS TO POST HERE....on threat of dire consequences if you don't.;) I hate faded plastic things...they look so antique when they're barely out of being new.
I bought some stuff a few years ago called Forever Black. I had forgotten about it, and started searching for something after my last post. I was going through a detailer's site and came across it again. It worked great a few years ago, so I ordered some. It says in the description it fills in the plastic pores and dyes the plastic black, and will not damage the paint. It's suppose to last 2-3 years with one application. I should get it sometime next week, and I'll let everyone know the results.

Hey Prop1,

Yeah, definitely let us know how it works. I haven't even gotten my Cali from the factory yet, but as I scour this forum, I'm taking note of all of the things I can do to keep my new baby looking factory new!

Look forward to post with the outcome!

Here is one website that sells it.....http://www.autogeek.net/forblacbumtr.html or check out the store locator from the manufacturers web page....http://www.foreverblack.com/locator.htm there are 4 dealers in New York, maybe one is near you. Hope this helps you :D
The Forever Black arrived yesterday. I'll wash the car this weekend, and apply it. Before and after pictures will be in order.;)
Sweet. I was afraid of this "black" plastic on the car. I'm hoping this stuff works. If it does, I will definitly be trying it on my car.
I have washed my Caliber and applied the first coat of the Forever Black. Looks better, but I hope the second coat finishes it off. I'll do the second coat tomorrow, and take pictures.

Yes I did. I've also decided that being the way I feel right now, this is the last time I will be washing my Caliber. It's physically too much for me anymore.:(

If I lived closer my friend.....I would gladly do it for you.:)

I took the after pictures before going to the dealer tonight for the flash update. I'll download them to PhotoBucket tomorrow and post the before and after then.
I'm curious about both results, more so the flash update, as my trim is not faded.....yet!;)
Well, here's the pictures. I'm disappointed as what's obvious to the naked eye, is pretty much lost by the camera.
