Noise comming from tranny

Hey, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem??? I have a 2008 srt4 and have a rattling noise from the gear box. I replaced the clutch with a stage 3 south bend clutch. The noise was there before I replaced the clutch. Friends of mine said it sounds like the input shaft or input shaft bearings. I brought the car to Chrysler Jeep Port Jeff, they had the car for a MONTH and said they replaced a bunch of bearings, after taking the car home I had the same noise so off to the dealer AGAIN. After a week and a half they gave me back the car telling me it still makes the same noise and now it's possibly the clutch (funny how a month earlier they thought it was the input shaft). Oh yea the noise goes away as soon as you step on the clutch. I put the car on a lift yesterday and one of my dust shields was missing the other one cracked, both ball joint rubber boots are torn and a transmission bolt was missing, thanks Port Jeff Chrylser !!! I brought the car to Smith Haven Dodge today.

Let us know what you find out. I'm wondering if it's not a bad throw out bearing.
thats what i was thinking ...if the sound goes away when you push on the pedal its usually a bad throw out bearing...
The throw out bearing was replaced when I did the clutch. I was IN the car when it was on the lift, reving the engine and engaging and dis-engaging the clutch while my friend was underneath. He thought it was the throw out bearing too but after listening to it, he said the noise was comming from the gear box. Besides jeep chrysler port jeff took the tranny apart twice, i would hope they looked at the throw out bearing.
A lot of times, people never even think about the throw out bearing. I'd ask them if they checked it out, you never know. Does you car have a pilot bearing in the rear of the crankshaft? I haven't messed with a manual transmission in over 20 years, but every one I ever worked on had a pilot bearing or bushing if you prefer, in the end of the crank where the transmission slides in. The can wear out too and cause noise.
yes it does have a pilot bearing and it wasnt replaced when the new clutch was installed. I was told it looked to be in good shape and didnt need to be replaced. Once again I would hope the dealer checked this out when they had the tranny out TWICE!!

I've always found that when replacing the clutch, replace all the components, even if they look to be good. If you don't, you'll live to regret it when you have to pull the tranny again in a few months or less.
I agree with Brad 100% here. Sounds to me like they half-assed it!!
Good news all, the dealer just called and said they're replacing the tranny. Still cant believe it. Thought this was going to be a fight...Still don't know what they found, just happy they're replacing it.

Let us know what the reason was. I wonder if it has anything to do with this RRT and it was never performed before it was sold: http://www.caliberforumz.com/showthread.php?t=27296
after 6 + weeks of my car being at the dealer, Dodge finally agreed to pay for a rentel car. It's safe to say after owning 4 dodge chrysler cars (which dosent mean nothing to Dodge) since 2005 this will be the last!!
Six weeks?? What's the hold up?
not sure, but it took them more then six weeks to finnally agree to REPLACE the tranny. This all started on august 16 and I still don't have the car back yet!!!
I think I'd have called the Chrysler grievance number and filed a complaint! That's just wrong to make you wait that long.
If the car is driveable, they should have ordered the transmission, let you keep the car, and call you in when they have the tranny and take a day or two to do the job.
I did call chrysler and file a complaint, there the ones who suggested to change dealerships and agreed to replace the tranny... Still waiting for the car!!!
still WAITING !!! going on 7 weeks!!!
hey good news, they say the car will be ready on thursday...hope so, taking it to the dyno on saturday. keep your fingers crossed!!
well got the car back, tranny was replaced. The noise is still there so I called south bend clutch (I have the stage 3 clutch), they told me to call arron from real tuned and gave me his number. After explanning the noise to Arron he said the noise is normal that it's the throw out bearing sliding back and forth...GEEEZ wished i called him first!!! Went to the dyno on saturday, three pulls for 50$ not bad. Best was a fourth gear pull at 317.21 hp, not bad but theres more in this set up and have to do a few things so the computer dosent pull back throttle...
