Hello all, forgive me if this is not the right place to post this but I am looking at getting a 2009 Caliber sxt with 65k miles and was wondering if this was still a good idea in 2021.

Would appreciate any opinions from you all.

Thanks, Nathan

The weakest point is the CVT transmission.

Underbody rust and electrical are also issues.

If the car is a super cheap beater, then it is probably worth it.

If this is your only car, and the car is not cheap for you, then I would look for something else.

I'm assuming this wouldn't be an issue with a manual transition car?

The manual transmission seems to be bulletproof, I've logged about 1,000 miles in anger on the track, no issues.

If you are going to rely on this car and spend more than a few thousand dollars, then I'd get the following checked before purchase:

1. compression test
2. cooling system leak test
3. underbody/suspension rust check
4. check for stored engine trouble codes
