My interior dome lights are all turning on when rotating dimmer on multifunction switch, if I rotate to any position but the first (off position) the interior dome lights are all on.

I was hoping the problem would be solved by swapping the multifunction switch. Swapping the part with one from a wrecked vehicle solved the problem I was having with right turn signal causing interior lights to come on, but I still can't make the instrument cluster bright without turning on interior lamps.

I'm stumped! Anyone run into this issue before?

EDIT: some added information, when i turn the headlights on, the instrument cluster is very dim, but I can't turn up the brightness without activating all the interior lights. the problem persists even though I changed multifunction switches

Could this be an issue with the door/hatch switch(es) thinking they're still open?

If you sit in the car, with all the doors & hatch closed, put the key in the ignition without turning it, does the dash ding telling you the key is in the ignition?

On mine, if the key is in the ignition with all doors closed, there is no sound. But if I then open a door, there is a ding to let me know the key is in the ignition.

If a door/hatch is open, the dome light should be on, unless the light switch is turned to Off.

And I think the instrument cluster is just "normally" dim, compared to other vehicles I've owned.
