engine covers???

Our Caliber was missing the engine cover upon delivery so we called up the dealer and asked for one and it appeared in the post along with the required fixings in no time at all....(and free of charge)
Proper service if you ask me and it looks so much better with it fitted...

Well I am one of the victims of the "coverless engine"! We didn't even really notice until today and I bought the car on Wednesday. My girlfriend looked under the hood and said "I don't think that is normal"...so I called the dealer and they confirmed that they didn't come with it but they could get me one...so I will have one soon! I just think it will look so much better with it.

For those starting from the back of a thread to summarise -

The build date of the Cali is on the door sticker.

Cali's built AFTER FEB 2007 did not have engine covers

except the 2.4l.

At about the same time the interior door handles and locks were upgraded from plastic to CHROME.

If you have a car built from March 2007 onwards with a cover or without chrome handles then share the BUILD date and trim/spec.

Your purchase date or year label could be a year or more later than the BUILD date so do check the stickers.

AND I take my cover off before garage visits (and any other items I want to protect). They will get slung on the floor and possibly forgoten / scratched.

I HEAR YA BUDDY....
I bought my caliber in 07 and it came with no engine cover. Gods, even my HYUNDAI ACCENT came with an engine cover. I went to the original dealership I bought the car at, and they had no asnwer (this is because they SUCK.) After I went to the much better Freehold Dodge/Subaru, they revealed that chrysler stopped putting them on the cars in an effort to lower the price, which I thought was dumb. I ordered one of my own for about 70 bucks. I don't know if they will give you one for fre now or if they even make them anymore.

My 2008 Caliber SXT CRD came with engine cover; it says 2.0L CRD (and proud of it ... lol) but there is no ram head or Dodge logo on it ... luckily neither the VW logo.

I'll have to look at mine again, my 07 didn't come with the engine cover or chrome handle/door locks. I did however find a cover one e-bay last year and bought it. Looks much better with it.

Hello. I just ordered/picked up a cover for my 09 2.0. I placed it on the engine but noticed on the passenger side there are some wires and a hose that are in the way. Did anyone have to trim the cover so it fits better??

I could be wrong but I believe they have to make replacement parts for your cars 10 years after production of the cars or at least have them in stock. At least I believe that is the law in the US. Not sure about this though, it's been something my step dad has told me for years.

By law they have to support the vehicle warranty period which can be up to 10 years from the last vehicle sale.

That covers parts to keep the car going - I doubt a plastic cosmetic engine cover qualifies.

In practice parts are available for as long as there are users to benefit from them.

After all you could today if you were driven build from all new parts a complete MGB.

my 2007 2.0 SXT has no cover on it. i'm not to worried about it now, maybe eventually i'll see one cheap somewhere and might feel impulsed to get it.
also Aleks is correct, manufactures are obligated to stock parts for 10 years past the production run.

My 2007 SXT did not have an engine cover when i bought it brand new. It has one now though. I just recieved the one i ordered off of Ebay today. Only took it 4 days to make it to Michigan..Not too bad. Funny thing was Dodge wanted to save a few bucks by not putting them on then why did they put one of the four mounting studs on it. Oh well i love the cleaner look, now i just need to come up with a paint scheme for it..

its probably been asked, but is there a good way to clip the cover on to the hood? as many of you know, it just sits on there, and it rattles a bit and makes some unnecessary noise. i think on the srt4 you can do it, right?

It doesn't just sit there!
It mounts on 4 ball struts and after 3-1/2 yrs I still have
not heard it rattle.Maybe you should check the mounting
struts.

If you are still talking about the engine cover then it should be attached to the engine.
There are 4 mounting studs that you need to buy separately. These screw into the block and have rubber mounts that grip the cover (very tightly - no vibrations).
