CVT Issues Thread

Hi folks...new to the forum....I thought I would tell you about my recent CVT issue. Driving home from work last week, my Transmission fluid overheat light came on. I immediately pulled over. The light went off so I decided to try and make it home...I made it to within 2 miles of home when the light again came on and it went into limp mode (25 Mph max). I had it towed to the dealer, I am now told the CVT is fried..needs total replacement, I have 49,347 miles on it...thank god for extended warranty!!

I hope this is an isolated event because my dealer told me these things are pretty much unbreakable. Hence lifetime powertrain warranty.
it was my understanding that that warranty is no longer offered. at least not on mine it wasnt.
If your Caliber was purchased after July 2007 (i think) then you get the Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is still valid as far as I know as mine is a 2008 SE 2.0L. Maybe just not on yours because you purchased it before the warranty was even offered therefore making the extended warranty apply to you even though I think the powertrain is warranted for 5 years 50,000 miles before the lifetime warranty.
...July 26th it took effect. AND mine came with 3/36,000 warranty but I purchased additional 5yr and they gave me the 10yr at no extra cost to me. :b1: I bought mine a few weeks after it went into effect and actually it played a big roll in what I was going to purchase as far as vehicle wise.

Im hoping there isnt alot of CVT issues!! I think this was the first Ive heard of one going.

Did you purchase your car used? Its only good for new cars purchased after July 26, 2007 unless its diff in Canada, which Id think it wouldn't be.

i purchased my Caliber 2 days ago. and all the paperwork i have says 5yr/100K kms for the powertrain. I'll have to ask at the dealership if its different between Canada and the US...
I'd have to say the lifetime warranty is no longer offered in Canada. This is what is on Dodge Canada site:

2008 Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles are backed by a 5-year or 100,000-kilometre* fully transferable Powertrain Warranty with $0 deductible, plus 24-hour roadside assistance.†

Basic Warranty coverage is for 3 years or 60,000 kilometres.* Rust-through coverage on all body sheet metal is for 3 years. The Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine is protected by a separate Limited Warranty, covering the engine for 5 years or 160,000 kilometres.*
That's right the lifetime drive warranty was not offered
here in Canada at all.
big tsr i could have sworn id seen at least a few ads here advertisign lifetime powertrain warranty.. although i got the distinct impression it was only on a certain few vehicles. still didnt last long as i think it was on 2007 clearouts only
thats what i thought also. once 2008 hit, that offer disappeared. they needed to boost sales at the end of 2007...

anyways, we're getting way :eek:fftopic:... lol
Too Similar....CVT Nightmare

Found this post on another thread on this forum...very close to the same problem I have with my caliber...http://www.caliberforumz.com/showthread.php?t=9686
Has anybody experienced a transmission issue that I can only describe as being similar to a slippimg clutch. My Caliber - 2007 sxt revs like crazy for no extra gain in acceleration - to teat it I took it fro 2500 to 6000 rpm with an increase in speed of about 6-7 kmh.

Any Ideas???
CVT fluid & Filter change

My 2007 SXT 2.0L has 100,000 kms on it now in just 18 months. The book says to change the fluid and filter on the CVT. Has anyone else had this done yet?? At this time it seems it is a dealer only job.. the fluid is $42 / litre total job about $420.... crazy, anyone have done yet?
ok, im not new to the forum, i always check on onformation but never really post up here, anyway , i have an 07 caliber and i purchased it when it first came out in april of 06, im having the same cvt issues but my dealer is telling me its normal! It overheats and the fluid light comes on on really hot days, or if i drive at least 70-75 constantly, i dont know at this point what the issue is but Dodge is on my last nerve with the run around everytime its a problem with this car, they never know anything! Does anyone else have the same problem ,had it check by Dodge, and was told a solution or the problem?
Hi raylc1981...Take your car to another dealer. Dealers vary a lot in their competency.
Despite my own CVT issues, i've never seen the overheating light coming on.

please do spend a minute or two to fill out your Car info into your User CP page so we know what are the specifics of your car, and your geographical location.

I suppose you'd be more subject to overheating if you live in Arizona than you would in Alaska. That would help us determine weither your condition is "normal" or if the dealer is BS-ing you.
