Hi - in advance thanks for any quick help and replies.
Our 2007 Dodge Caliber has a brake light problem.

Brake lights (when brake pedal pressed) - NOT WORKING
3rd brake light (upper window in hatchback) - WORKING
Back-Up lights - WORKING
Horn - WORKING
Brake lights (when remote lock pressed) - WORKING

What I tried -
Fuses - checked fuses in TIPM - ALL APPEAR OK
Disconnecting negative battery terminal to reset TIPM

So far - no joy.

Please, are there other solutions?

And, is there a specific fuse (manual and TIPM cover are confusing) that controls brake pedal to brake lights?

Again - thanks for all quick replies and help.

Do you have amber rear blinkers? The remote lock is supposed to flash those not brakes.
On the 08 it would flash the brakes as blinkers.

You do not mention tails.

I would check and test the bulbs just because it is easy.

Unlikely if both sides at same time and you have reset the TIPM.

Next thing I would check is the switch at the pedal, may just be adjustment but your Hi-center works.

Nothing else logical comes to mind.

If everything else is 100% then there will be a break in the circuit.

Check for connectors, don't forget the earth return - you can test for voltage.
We have a diagram in the Service manual that you can download.
You would be looking for a branch after the 3rd light.

Thanks Aleks.

Yes, you are correct - I have rear amber blinkers.
In fact, they are the lights that flash when the remote lock is activated.

The tail lights (red) come on and stay steady when the steering column stalk is twisted to turn the lights on.

Yes, it would be odd that both left and right bulbs would blow simultaneously.

NOTE - in trying to reset the TIPM, I only disconnected the battery's negative terminal for about 5 minutes.
Do I have to totally disconnect the battery (both terminals), or wait longer for a reset?

I will try your suggestions, and look forward to a reply about the reset.

Thanks, again.

Not helping yourself by waiting for a problem before joining I guess.

Yes TIPM reset is definitely the prime suspect and 5 minutes is not long enough for the residual voltages.

Disconnect both leads and attach them together for half an hour.

----- This was the bit that confused me

Thanks.
I did make a mistake.
When remote lock is pressed headlights and amber tail lights flash.

Both battery terminals are disconnected - as I write this.

Thanks for your help.

Hopefully that will be it.

We have described the reset so many times on here that expect all to know the procedure.

Let us know how you make out and come back with some entertaining posts.

Was there ever any resolution to this?

I have same problems... its at the shop as we speak. they say they have narrowed it down to the TIPM... BUT

I did install trailer lights a bit before this problem occured. Should I go to dealer for reset, just find a used TIPM, sell it on ebay, or just left my wife drive it without the kids?

I answered you here: http://www.caliberforumz.com/showthread.php?p=249409#post249409

And get yourself a new mechanic. The one that you're using now is a moron.

Brad... if this works, I am buying you a tasty beverage of your choice. I'll go get the car tmw (it needed to have a hole drilled in the a/c box, and one of the pulley's needs to be replaced anyways) and will let you know how I do.

One last question for today... why do you have a picture of a Glock up? No access to a picture of an M&P? I can send you one if you want :)

Thanks again!!!

No reason other than it's on my wish list. My preferred conceal/carry weapon of choice is a Rossi 38sp+p revolver. Easy to hide, and only fires when you really want it to. Although, before I buy the Glock; it's time for a new rifle. Right now that's looking like a Ruger M77 Hawkeye bolt-action in a 7mm-08 Rem caliber. Still need to decide on the optics.

So, called the mechanic... I dont get to try the TIPM reset...

He jerry-rigged a hot wire down from the top brake light with an in-line fuse.

I asked him to wait til he heard from me.

That will work until you hook up the trailer and hit the brakes. This guy knows nothing about the electrical system on these cars.
