On many connectors on the Caliber there is a little sliding latch tab, usually red in color, that you need to slide backward or forward (I forget which at the moment). This will release the plug and allow you to pull it out.

If it's not a slider then a screwdriver release tab may do it

i have replaced my alternator about 3 times now lol.
the red tab is hard has hell to pull out.
but if you can get something under the red tab and pry backwards it will be ok and not break and it will pop out.

yeah after a while those little red tabs tend to stick really bad, just be careful and use a little bit of force and the tab should come loose no problem. screwdriver usually works, just get a good hold of it and push it back towards the rear of the connector
