While trying to deliver pizza, I noticed my phone was no longer showing the map. The light on the charger wasn't on, and wiggling it around didn't help. Tried 2 more chargers and none lit up so I scrambled for the handbook to look up the correct fuse. Couldn't find the spares so I took the same size from the sunroof slot and swapped them out. Got in the car, turned the key, and was treated to sparks and smoke :-o and that "zzzzt" sound of electronic death. Okay, obviously I need a new 12V outlet. My concern is what caused that, and will it happen again when I put the new one in?

This could be the results of a bad connection at the rear of the power outlet (power input),
the way the outlets are constructed sometimes leads to electrical problems also.
Basically the core(where you plug into) thru usage unscrews from the shell (ground side)
and you can get intermittent power and arcing.
The only way to resolve it is to power down and disassemble the outlet check for burned
components repair or replace.
