ABS/traction control light comes on more often and grinding sound is getting louder. A friend said he had exact same issue and it turned out to be terminal for the transmission. Anything I can do to keep it from disintegrating?

This happened to mine after I bought used tires - not all were the same diameter and I'm thinking the traction control thought one was spinning too fast.

Once I changed to new(er) tires, the issue stopped, with the exception of the front right trying to compensate for torque steering ("normal").

I kept the ABS/Traction offline by removing a fuse, which also removed power to the reverse lights, speedometer/odometer, cruise control, external air temp sensor, and lights the cluster like a xmas tree.
