For audio, I connect my phone's headphone jack to the radio's AUX input. I don't use the radio for anything other than pushing AUX sound to the speakers.

I'm thinking of removing everything (stereo, amp, sat link, etc), and just building something semi-custom that would either have just an AUX (maybe including a mixer to directly add other inputs), with passive filters for hi/med/low/sub, and separate amps for each of the bands. And/Or build something to receive Bluetooth audio signals for times when I'm constantly in and out of the car - I hate plugging, unplugging all the time.

Removing the stereo would give me space for other things (like a bigger inverter, switches, and a place for the flux capacitor). The sat receiver never gets used anyway. Replacing amps and speakers would let me be in control of power & brands of the new installs. Removing the existing amp and sat receiver from the spare tire area would also give more room for other things.

Thoughts?

The most simple way of your BT solution would be to plug in a Bluetooth receiver to AUX input. No need to strip down anything. On the other hand, if you prefer to do a full sound system mod to your taste, let your thoughts bloom to your hearts content.

My primary thought is freeing up dash space. I really see no reason to keep the factory stereo installed when I never use it. All that double-din and cubby space can be redesigned for something else.

I don't even own any music CDs. 😆

As for Bluetooth, I haven't found any information on its frequency response - I'd like to have a wide 10hz - 30kHz range available.

Hmm, maybe you could upgrade your stereo with the one that has USB input so that you can plug in USB drives with all your music in it instead of plugging your phone every time.

And then you could probably mount auxiliary switches onto the cubby space for your needs.

Just a thought.

Says CD quality so dynamic range of 70-16Khz ish, you cannot hear outside that anyway.

The USB is a power input with jack audio output of the BT signal. Built in Mic so if you accept a call then it is hands free.
