New here. I have a 2007 Caliber SXT 2.0L and CVT. Looking for information in general, nothing specific.

Welcome to the forumZ. Seems like you already have the basic information by stating 2.0 and CVT.

Thanks for the welcome. I bought the Caliber from a dealer for cheap, so I expect some gremlins. I have ordered a radiator and a pair of thermostats because it seems to be running a little hot when the engine speed is low. It cools fine as long as the engine speed is 2000 rpm or above sitting at a stop. The coolant was pretty bad looking when it was flushed.

I already downloaded the service manual and it has been a great help in finding some electrical issues.

Being a first year model, you can pretty much expect gremlins. Take a good look at your front suspension as it's a known weak area for the Calibers. And check your cooling fans for proper operation. Unfortunately, they're controlled by the TIPM. Just try to see if they're operating at both low and high speed. If not, you MIGHT be able to remove them and clean up the brushes and solve the problem. IDK if you can do that on the Calibers or if they're sealed. Keep in mind that the recommended plug change intervals on the Calibers are every 30,000 miles. And just stay with the OEM plugs. They do just fine.

Yes the fans are working on low speed for sure. Haven't noticed the high speed yet. Still trying to find out where the fan relays are located to see if the high/low relay is good.

I rented a Caliber when they first came out on vacation once and found them fun to drive. So I got this one to use as a daily driver once I get the cooling sorted out. It is just as much fun as I remember for town driving. I'm not going to press it into service until it's ready. Until then I'll have to suffer through with my RT Magnum, LOL. Suffer at the pump that is.

The suspension is sound except for the outer tie rod ends, which I've ordered. I may need to change the engine supports though, but haven't got to the point of checking them out.

I loved my Caliber. It was getting a combo around town/highway mileage of about 29.8 mpg. And I have a kind of a heavy foot. No way in hell I could put gas in an RT Magnum! I don't think there's a separate relay for the fans on the Caliber. One of the other members may know. I think that stinking TIPM controls most everything in the car. Be aware that the wire harness under the battery tray can be a problem area too for shorts. Seems that it's not quite as long as it should be and wires either rub through on the fender or break internally. Just a little more FYI.

I decided to change the radiator and when I removed the bumper cover I found the relays. Under the driver's side in a relay box.

I spent about 30 minutes trying to pull the radiator up through the top before I figured out it drops out the bottom! There does not seem to be a youtube video on R&R of the radiator. While I had the system drained I went ahead and changed the thermostats and since the throttle body was accessible, a new one of those was also installed. Probably could have gotten by with just cleaning, but now I have a spare part, I guess.

Sounds like you're doing things right. And it never hurts to have spare parts. Sometimes I wish I had a spare wife. Surely they couldn't BOTH have a headache at the same time, right? LOL

Got it all back together and with new plugs, throttle body, thermostats and radiator it's running great. And best of all no overheating.

Next project is to find out why the passenger front window is not working.
