Default Suspension arm and ball joint repair cost

    Hi all,
I live in the U.K and my Dodge Caliber has just failed it's MOT due to:

-Suspension arm ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt, nearside front.
-Suspension arm has excessive play in the ball joint, offside front.

My garage has quoted me £450 to fix the above....can anyone advise me as to whether that is about the right price for the job or if that seems a lot of money for the job.
Any feedback would be much appreciated :-)

    Thanks :-)

    sam

Seems pretty steep to me. Of course, I'm a cheap bastard and do all of my own work on my cars. If you can do your own repairs, I'd suggest going to rockauto.com and just ordering the complete lower control arm assembly and do it yourself. You'll need to get a front end alignment afterward, but I'm sure you'd still probably save about 300 quid!

It is normally recommended to replace both sides together. Is that price just one?

I agree with gjxj. Do both sides at the same time. That way, you won't have to worry about the other side. You can order all of what you need from rockauto and do it yourself. Even with the alignment, you'll come out money ahead.
