    Default Scan Code P1607

My horn has not worked for a while and just got it replaced. When I picked up my car from the mechanic the car would not start! He jumped it off and said I should drive it around so the alternator would charge it up. So I get into it this morning and nothing!! I then take it up to Autozone and they tell me the battery is dead. Its the one from the factory and my car is a 2007. Also my engine light came on this AM with code P1607. I had a extra battery and installed it but the car still won't start with out jumping it off! Any suggestions?

The PCM isn't getting ignition power. Could be a fuse, connection, or damaged wire. Could also be that the battery cables have corrosion and the PCM is seeing less than 10 volts. If you take a meter and check the battery posts, and then check the voltage on the cable clamps you'll know if that is the case. Could also be the replacement battery has shorted plates under load.

Thanks Brad checked all you mentioned earlier in the day all checked fine. I'm just mind boggled that prior to taking it in to have the horn replaced everything except the horn worked! At this point I wished I would have not listened to the wife and replaced the horn myself when I had time!!

Did you actually check the battery while trying to crank the engine? You should also be looking at wires that may have been damaged during the horn replacement. I think the issue was probably caused by the mechanic that replaced the horn. You may have a pinched wire that drawing power, but isn't a dead short.
