So, it's day four without my car and not sure if i'll have it back in another four days. Not even sure what to call the problem or the part that i am waiting for that is not even available anywhere in Canada (coming from the States) all i know is that my car is sitting in the dealer's garage since Tuesday and now it is Friday.

Went in for some of the minor TSB's and to have an auto start installed. After all was said and done, the car decided it didn't like the key anymore and kicked in to extreme security mode. Locked up tighter than Fort Knox and now some "box" is on it's way from Michigan. I strongly suggested that Dr. Z himself deliver it personally, cause i am pissed!!!!!! Can't blame the dealer cause it is not their fault, but who do i complain too and who the heck is going to care any way. I shouldn't mind paying over $30,000 to drive a used car that i don't even like and now i'm starting to rant because every time i think of how ridiculous this is i get even more upset.

Technology is great, until it takes over your car. I WANT MY CALIBER BACK!!!!

It seems to me they screwed up the remote start, which can happen if you have the key in the ignition and try to use the remote start.... some type of double chip start,
(I was warned of this when I had mine installed)
Hope you get it back soon

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I hope for Natalie's sake this isn't an indication of an incompetent dealer.:shakehead:

Sadly, I was gonna say don't be so quick to not blame the dealer. They're very good at pushing off the blame to people/organizations that you don't know or can't contact. Hound them to get the parts faster. It's their job. Their parts department should be able to locate parts and if they've had your car for soooo long, they should have shipping expidited (sp?).

xcanuk: is that the factory remote start that you're talking about? So does that mean you can't engage the remote start with the key in and the car running in order to keep the car running if you want to get out for a few minutes?

I've got an aftermarket alarm/remote start, regardless, they all run on the same principle. (Do you really think Dodge makes their own, like every other manufacturer, they sub the parts/accessories out)
I'm not sure I understand your question, but if the key is in the ignition, car running, you should not hit the remote start..the car reads the chip in the key, then tries to read the second chip used in the remote start...meltdown.
If you want to keep the car running while on an errand, you shut down, remove the key, then restart using the remote.

Nat, that really sucks I know. Any time something happens to your brand new baby it is less than ideal. Just hang in there. It'll all work out.

I see, you answered my question. Sorry I worded it badly.
On my 05 Silverado I have a Viper alarm/remote start. With the key in the ignition and the engine running, if you hit the remote start it keeps the engine running and you can then remove the key, get out and arm the alarm. I guess the difference is that in that vehicle the keys are not chipped. Thanks for the explination!

Thanks Sofa, really hope everything else is ok with the car when i get it back. Going through some pretty rough withdrawls without it right now. Whatever has happened does not seem to be a very regular occurance, very confusing. Say some prayers for me!!!

I finally got my car back today so i thought i'd fill you in on what was done:

The "box" is the mechanism that reads the chip in your key. Apparently what happened to mine could have happened at any time and would have happened eventually. So be careful, it has happened to a couple of calibers here in my hometown. If it suddenly doesn't recognize the key anymore you will be in security mode "locked up". This part was hard to find and unavailable at the present time in Canada.

If anyone is noticing that their fuel mileage rate is higher than you think it should be, check out the oxygen sensor. Mine was replaced and my mileage is now exactly where it should be (9.7 L / 100 km)

Those of us who noticed a hesitation on cool morning take-offs, a flash cleared this issue and may have even played a part in the improved mileage rate.

My tire pressure sensors that i mentioned in another thread, problem was caused by one bad sensor. This has been replaced.

Those of us who noticed slight rattles in the back, i had to replace one of the hatch shocks. I realized something was still not right when the rattle would come and go with opening and closing of the hatch. This has been replaced.

Had TSB's done for rear window washer and windshield circles.

Had auto start installed, working great.

Installed rear cargo mat. Nice looking and does a great job reducing road noise and reduces "hollowness" from back area. Even holds the "tunes" better!!

So i'm all tickity boo now, and quite happy to have my car back and ready to roll again.

Update to the list, i almost forgot.....

I had also been noticing an occasional "rubbing" or "squeaking" that seemed to be coming from the underside of the car, particularly at the back passenger side. It only happened sometimes, but sure enough discovered that the exhaust was not properly lined up underneath the car. The bottom part of the back bumper has a molded area for the tail pipe to come out of the back of the car, mine was a little off center and was a little to the right, hence the rubbing was the tail pipe hitting the bottom of the bumper area. It was an easy fix, simple realignment but worth checking on your car to make sure yours is lined up properly.
