J Sainsbury plc has purchased Tansfield Lands Edison Mobile Electric Vehicles(MEVs are not hybrid electric) to deliver their products inside London. The 3.3 ton capacity vans are limited to 50MPH & 150mile range. With year long varifying tests complete Sainsbury will now convert their entire fleet to MEVs by 2010.

More power to MEVs! Carry on businesses in London. That other cities should kick start inner city MEV policies is obvious. Time to get Internal Combustion Engines away from human beings....time & way past time.

Details & extensive commentary at Green Car Congress.

Makati City, Philippines converted two vehicles to full electric vehicles(EVs). If successful, they hope to transform 50 vehicles to EVs. Power will be supplied by digester plants using food establishment wastes. The vehicles are Jeepneys(converted Jeeps) left over from WWII that have been economical, but highly polluting. Stepping into the 21 Century, the hope is that these EVs will be even more profitable than the Jeepneys have been for 60+years.
