View Full Version : Did the Sirius Marketing Strategy Work

Now that I've had the Sirius radio free for a year, I tell everyone how much I love it. I think it was a WISE move on their part to offer it for free, get you hooked and hope you continue the subscription. I'm just guessing anyway.

So the purpose here is to find out if the "Assumption" is correct that most people will renew.

I've never had it for free, but have had it on three vehicles now. Got it for X-mas on the first, and haven't been able to live without it since.

You left out my choice, so I added it.:Na_Na_Na_Na:

And if anyone is wondering why, it's because I don't live in my car!:p

ive had sirius radio for several years now... not long after it first came out... and what a blessing its been... when you drive in the mojave desert between LA and las vegas there are only two stations to listen to(not to mention nebraska, montana idaho, wyoming etc etc.... satellite took care of that...

if you travel a lot in your hoopty im sure its a necessity... shoot Shade 45 is worth the price of subscription alone... gtg the "all out show" is on right now

Just paid for another year subscription. I think i save money by not having to buy so many c.d.'s. I listen to stations 19, 20 and 27 most of the time. I couldn't live without it in my car.

For anyone who doesn't know those stations are all rock or heavy metal. I renewed my subscription, even thoguh I don't use it much, I like the variety.

Hi! Glenn, I have always liked the harder, rock music. When i was young, all my friends liked the Beatles. I didn't like them (maybe a few songs). I liked the Rolling Stones. LOL!!

Never thought of that option. Well, that's what makes the world go around and makes this a democratic society. Every opinion counts!:4-argue:

Well I've only had my car for about 3 weeks, and I got Sirius free for one year. This is my first time using satellite radio but I love it! I will definitely be renewing my subscription when it's time.

I never listen to local radio anymore since I got the Cal with the Sirius package- I even listen to it on my computer at home- addicting!

I like it but the manual tuning dial has a mind of its own when tuning thru Sirius channels. It jumps around quite a bit. I can' turn it from 1 all the way up to the highest channel without it restarting at 1. Same with downward tuning.

I am pretty excited about what happened today:b1: I had called yesterday to confirm the 1 year renewal rate, and she offered 2 years for a good price. I said sure, do the upgrade and I'd mail my payment in before the date of suspension (almost 2 weeks from now) and this morning~MY RADIO GOT SHUT OFF for lack of payment.

So I called and explained what happened. (All of your contacts with them are documented, so they saw the transcript). Seems when you do an upgrade (ie: 1-yr to 2-yr plan) it resets and cancels out the previous subscription. It can be "undone" BUT, it seems she coded my account incorrectly, which was 3 years for the price of 2. I could either send in the payment, and wait for probably 5-7 days for service to resume, or put it on a credit card and resume immediately. I went ahead and did that, and I got my service for just over $6.50/mo for 3 years!! I am an extremely happy camper!!

She also said the merge with XM will happen, they're just waiting for the FCC to approve it. No firm date yet.

So I'm giving a big thumbs to SIRIUS for allowing me to walk away feeling like I'm a winner!:)

I didn't get it with my car, stock stereo.

For my old car I was gievn a Serius radio kit, I installed it, activated it and such a day before going on a road trip. The next morning I went to use it and it had blown the fuse for the lighter jack in which it plugged into for power. I exchanged the device and then sold it.

When you have a lifetime subscription, you have to pay &75 when you change radio units. When you have regular subscriptions, you can change radios and activate them at no charge. Don't know how the honoring/grandfather system will go. She just told me with the merge, we will have access to double the programming. I'm sure it will all be good, or they will lose a lot of customers!

What did you get lifetime on? When I looked into it (my sister has it), I was told lifetime is assigned to the radio "vin" number, and is only lifetime on that radio. If you ever change radios, there's a fee to reassign lifetime to the new radio.

I have the free year subscription and can't even use it because I'm in Europe! :shakehead:

Okay, I have to say I won't be renewing the sirius for one reason - they don't have the NHL channel (XM does...) and my dearest hubby and I are huge Red Wings fans and since we don't have VS (Don't even get me started on Time Warner Cable....) the sat rad would have been perfect for listening to the game - we could have gone to a deserted mountain side, put the hatchback up and the speakers down, gotten a blanket and watched the stars while listening to the game - but nooo we have to watch the feed from a "interesting" connection online. :-(

Otherwise Sirius is okay I guess, but I honestly only listen to NPR and audiobooks so instead of spending money on the sat rad I'm putting in an aux cable :-)

Hey librariananna~You should continue your script because when the merge is finalized, if you're locked in at that time, you will get the extra channels. You always have to "assume" that if you choose to subscribe at THAT time, you may pay more. Just a thought. By the way, what are Det RW fans doing in OHIO?! :wow:

I renewed, but not right away. The signal is a bit overcompressed for my listening pleasure, but I do enjoy some of the programming. I wonder how many more signals they will cram per transponder with the merger, and how awful it will sound at that time...

Yeah, tell me about it! We had it in our rental Cali last summer and I loved it, especially on the drive through the desert between L.A. and Las Vegas. :Racing:

But I'm wondering why it wouldn't work, the signal does come from a satellite, wouldn't that be available anywhere?

You have to be in the region the satellite is aimed at. Apparently, the XM and Sirius satellites are in orbit above North America only. :shakehead:

I am not one who likes to spend money on stupid things, unless you ask my wife, lol, but I really like the choices of the sat radio and my cd, and the local all in one radio. So I kept the subscription atleast till I can not afford it,lol.

Yeah I totally forgot about the merger with those two - is there an expected date? I have the subscription until June 30th so I may wait till closer to consider renewing it, if in fact we can get the nhl channels, but that's also when the hockey season is over so I dunno :-/

Go Red Wings :-) Had to put that in since they swept the Ave's last night 8-2 :-D

> But I'm wondering why it wouldn't work, the signal does come from a satellite, wouldn't that be available anywhere?

There are a lot of satellites in orbit... some have spot beams, others are aimed only at conus (continental US), some sats over the atlantic can be received from either side with the right sized dish and the proper receiving/decoding/decrypting gear. A bit beyond the scope of this forum... check out Lyngsat.com if you really want to know what bird is where, and what signal(s) are on which frequencies.
